Melanie started skating when she was just 2 years old, and was competing by the time she was 6! She met Fred Palascak in 1994 when they competed against each other in the US National Championships. Later that year, the pair became skating partners and went on to become Eastern Champions and later were placed 4th in the Nationals.
In 1999 Fred and Melanie both turned professional and embarked on a series of professional shows such as Holiday On Ice, Disney On Ice and Nutcracker On Ice.
